Random Shooter

 Introduction

This is the first release of a shoot em up game written in SDL. The objective is simple: you have 1 life and 1 hit will kill you. Try and destroy as many enemies as possible before this happens.

 Controls

The default controls are the arrow keys to move around, left control to fire and P to pause. The controls are configurable.

 Scoring

Each enemy that you destroy will earn you a small number of points. Some enemies will drop coins when they are destroyed, collecting these will earn you a lot more points, 5 times the number of points of a regular enemy. It is important to try and destroy as many enemies as possible, as each one that gets past you will dock your score, so not destroying any enemies for a considerable amount of time might reduce your score of tens of thousands back down to 0!

 Replays

The game automatically stores replay files in the user's home directory under

~/.parallelrealities/randomshooter/replay00x.dat

where x is the number of the replay. You can watch the replays off the command line by issuing the following command

randomshooter -playback <location of replay file>

 Online Scores

Online scores require a replay file to be valid. Once you have earned a highscore, zip up the replay file and upload it on this page. Provided it plays back correctly, your score will be added to the database.

The ship design...is it the same design as the Firefly in Project: Starfighter?
