 Introduction

The medals service is an in-game feature that rewards players for performing certain tasks, such as completely a level, scoring a certain number of points, or unlocking secrets. It is akin to the Trophies and Achievements feature is that found on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. This implementation, however, is very much experimental.

Bronze The simplest of awards. Usually presented for achieving a straight forward task, such as completing a level or defeating a certain number of enemies.
Silver Though only one step up from a bronze, a silver award rewards skillful play and due diligence. Such an award might go to one who has made significant progress through a game, and overcome some difficult challenges.
Gold At the upper end of the awards system is the Gold, presented only to those who have gone the distance and proven their worth, such as finishing a game. Winners take home the golds.
Ruby The ultimate award. Rare and can only be gained through winning every other award for that particular game.

If you wish to participate in the Medal service, then you can sign up below. You will be sent a key for use with the game (see further instructions below). Currently, both Metal Blob Solid 1.15 and Virus Killer 1.01 support this service.

If you're interested in adding "support" for this service in your own game, then get in touch (medals@parallelrealities.co.uk) and we can arrange something. It is based purely on HTTP calls; there is nothing special or complicated involved. See src/CMedalServer.cpp and presentPlayerMedal() in src/player.cpp in Metal Blob Solid for code examples.

 Set Up Instructions

Blob Wars : Metal Blob Solid

Create a file called medalKey, containing your private medal key and copy it into $HOME/.parallelrealities/blobWars/.

Linux players can do this easily from the shell by typing the following,

echo {your_private_key} > ~/.parallelrealities/blobWars/medalKey

Windows players should place the medalKey file in the same folder as the Metal Blob Solid executable (blobwars.exe).

Virus Killer

Create a file called medalKey, containing your private medal key and copy it into $HOME/.parallelrealities/virusKiller/.

Linux players can do this easily from the shell by typing the following,

echo {your_private_key} > ~/.parallelrealities/virusKiller/medalKey

Windows players should place the medalKey file in the same folder as the Virus Killer executable (viruskiller.exe).

The Legend of Edgar

Create a file called medalKey, containing your private medal key and copy it into $HOME/.parallelrealities/edgar/.

Linux players can do this easily from the shell by typing the following,

echo {your_private_key} > ~/.parallelrealities/edgar/medalKey

Windows players should place the medalKey file in the same folder as the Legend of Edgar executable (edgar.exe).

There was a discrepancy in the URL for the Sign Up email that was issued.

The correct URL is:

http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/medals/activate/<your_private_key>

So, if your private key is 123456789, you should go to:

http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/medals/activate/123456789

to activate your account.

Also, please ensure you are not using Internet Explorer 5 or 6, since these browsers are now banned from this website.

i registered as name tim but your system doesn't like sending to our domain for email (probably spf or something) so i tried using my googlemail account which worked ok. I would like to use my name but it was "used" by my first attempt. - any chance of renaming my current (timsoft) to tim - thanks.

Just found this place to ask. Where is the Windows version of the game Blob Wars Blob and Conquer?

Steve
February 28th, 2010 at 08:47

@Fernando - There isn't one, because I couldn't get one to build.

@tim - Done. I've deleted the old tim and renamed timsoft.

That is, you do not have the Windows operating system?

Steve

@Fernando - No, I don't use Windows.

Version 1.17 of Metal Blob Solid fixes a bug where it is not possible to achieve the Defeat 1000 and Defeat 2500 Medals.

Today I checked my player page up the top it says I have 10/11 gold medals I searched down but I could not find any gold medals I haven't been rewarded. Is it a secret medal?

Edgar needs some gold medals. How about "Saved up 5 health potions?"

Rik
May 13th, 2010 at 08:38

The Gold Medal is for completing Edgar (which you cannot do yet).

Bah -- and Metraus doesn't even rate a bronze? Also, I just got eaten for the fifth time, and didn't get the medal. Possibly because I shortly thereafter got eaten for a 6th time?

David Harmon

And.. I had cause to reload that game, got eaten the fifth time without the distracting sixth, and still didn't get the medal.

That happened to me too.

Hi, i'm phap. So far everything was working fine for the medal untill this morning.
So I've beaten Mateus, the watchdog, killed more than 1000 ennemies, fired more than 250 arrows and blocked more than 2000 attacks but I didn't get the medals for that...

(Switching from "David Harmon" to "Mental Mouse for comments)

OK, the medal server seems to be a little unreliable, sometimes failing to award...

So now, for Edgar, I'm down to two "counters", and three unknown medals. Interestingly, my Statistics page says I've got three unfound secrets...

I get my secretkey after finish some objetives on blobwars.
My first time playing connected with the medalserver, I earned three medals when I click in "Continue the game".
The problem is that I finish some objetives like "Rescue 50 MIAs", "Score 100,000 Points" and some others.
Why I'm not earned medals for that? My page is:
http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/medals/player/easter_egg.php
Other user is having a same problem:
http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/medals/player/YaMi_ChAn.php

Are you always connected and online whilst playing the game?

The medals can't be earned if you're not playing online.

I'm playing online. But some medals not earned yet. Medals that I should have...

Steve

What OS are you using? Did you compile the game yourself?

Start a new game and finish the first level (Grasslands) and see if that gives you the medal.

Linux, when I finish the first level. I earned the medals.

It seems that no one remarked yet that "The Legend of Edgar" has two online manuals links,
and was split into two entry at the Medals section (one with "The", the other without).

Thanks for this - it's now been fixed
